COPENHAGEN WRAP UP RALLY!
Conservative MP Andrew Saxton's Office Sat.Dec.19 @ 1pm
As week two of the Copenhagen climate talks come to an end, Canada stands out above all other nations as an obstacle to progress. There is no other way to put it -- Harper, Prentice and the rest of the Conservative government put short term tar sands profits ahead of a healthy and secure planet for future generations. We cannot let that happen.
We hoped for genuine progress in Copenhagen, and a major shift in policy by our government in response to international pressure. That hasn't occurred, and it's clear now that change at the top is only going to result because of pressure from below -- when regular Canadians like us say enough is enough! The majority of Canadians are outraged with this government's behaviour in Copenhagen and Canada's battered international reputation.
We deserve some answers!
Please join us for a COPENHAGEN WRAP UP RALLY at MP Andrew Saxton's Constituency Office, as we call on him to attend a climate townhall. He needs to meet with constituents, hear their concerns and explain how his government intends to deal with the climate crisis.
LOCATION: 3rd and Lonsdale, North Vancouver - just a few blocks from the SeaBus.
TIME/DATE: 1 pm Saturday December 19th.
Bring hot chocolate, signs, musical instruments and be ready to call for action! It's never been more important to put pressure on government to act. They need to hear loud and clear that while the international talks are done, the pressure at home is only beginning. Come out and join us -- consider it your present to the planet!
WHY ANDREW SAXTON'S OFFICE?
Several groups have attempted to arrange meetings with Conservative MP Saxton, and he has rejected all offers:
- The Capilano Student Union and Oxfam attempted to arrange a town hall meeting with Mr. Saxton, but he refused;
- Canadian Memorial United Church and Voters Taking Action on Climate Change held a peaceful vigil outside his office and invited him to offer a statement on his government's position on climate change. These groups received no response and his office was closed for the day, during office hours.
MP Saxton's response to the public reflects the response of this government in general. This government needs to know that indifference and contempt are not appropriate responses to the concern held by millions of Canadians.
Considering the CBC's recent revelations about the Conservative plan to weaken the emissions targets and the rampant criticism of Canada at the Copenhagen Conference, when will Mr. Saxton acknowledge the concerns of his constituents?
